Picnic Cooking

The picnic plan for Royal Garden Resort, which has been on the slow burner for some time (see post of March 28), is beginning to take shape now. This morning Hari Singh Shekhawat announced that in keeping with persistent requests from members, the trip is being scheduled for the latter half of this month – regardless of the fact that it comes close on the heels of the Harshgiri picnic of March 13.
“Many of our members have kids at home who could not join us on the last picnic due to pressure of their annual examinations,” he said. “Now that the examinations are over and most schools and colleges are shut for the summer holidays, it would be nice to treat the kids to a day out at a resort, before the weather gets too hot and monsoon sets in.”
The advantage of Royal Garden Resort is that it is within an hour’s drive down the Western Express Highway, close to Mira Road. It boasts of all the amenities most resorts offer, including two large swimming pools, the standard rain-dance shower, a children’s park, games, toy train… and food served throughout the day. Besides, it is familiar territory, as a similar excursion had been organized to the place about four years ago.
Khatoon Baig (above) is eagerly looking forward to the picnic – because only after that would she be able to undergo a cataract operation which is long pending. She says she wouldn’t miss the trip for anything. Sitaram Hivarkar insists on a ‘no-outsider policy’ and that the picnic be restricted exclusively to members and their families. And Nazma Sayed, as usual, is asking for a front seat in the bus.
Meanwhile, news comes in of our friend, Harish Wadhwa (right) suffering from a major throat infection problem. He suspects it is tonsillitis, but is reluctant to go under the knife. He is sticking to oral medication for as long as he can help it. Let us hope this works out well and wish him a speedy recovery.
