There are comedians and comediennes, but there is one Nafisa Sayyad (in pic). She is a natural. Now that she has become fairly regular at the Garden, everyone looks up to her for some wisecrack, a mimicry act… even the off-the-cuff one-liner. And the moment she opens her mouth, others would stop mid-sentence to hear her, even abandon whatever they were doing… just as it happened today with Shekhawat who was to realize that the joke was actually on him. The exercises over, he was slowly walking towards the Gate when he noticed a crowd gathered around Nafisa, laughing and cheering her. He ran up, just in time to catch her doing a ditto act of him. “Chauwwan, Panchpan, Chappan… Atthawan” she was rattling on in perfect tone and intonation while clapping and moving to and fro. Shekhawat instantly cracked up, coughing and choking with laughter.
But Nafisa was not done yet. She repeated her famous Unglimaster number and went on to enact how oldies would take part in the games on Sports Day. The best was how they would play marbles with their hands shaking, heads doddering, vision failing and still trying to take aim… It was superb!
For all the entertainment she provides, the sad part is that if ever Nafisa wants to be serious or (god-forbid) is in distress, nobody would believe her. We will still laugh at her.
Bhaswati Bose:
Not many people know that Nafisa suffers from severe diabetes. But that has obviously not robbed her of her sense of humour!
Zaiyan Khan:
Razia Khan (left) has been again hospitalized at Pooja Nursing Home (1st floor) Jogeshwari (West) Station Road. Please pray for her early recovery.
Harish Wadhwa:
* Today’s mimicry by Nafisa-ji was very spontaneous and humorous. Each one of us who were there had a natural big laaf.
* My good wishes for an early recovery go out to Razia-ji. She had to be hospitalised again.
Jagmohan Papneja:
Nafisa has exceptional style. She adopted the characters of two persons which evoked good humour. We feel flattered watching her act. Our total support and encouragement to her talent. Hope she comes out with another act of mimicry on Monday.
