Laughter Demo

Over the years, we have come to imagine that we know all there is to be learnt about laughter exercises. From time to time, we interact with laughter groups in the vicinity and through a process of assimilation and elimination, we have struck what we believe is a perfect combination of drill sets – till Usha Pandit Rao landed in our midst.
A frail, soft-spoken lady from Pratibha Nagar Laughter Club in Kolhapur, she took us all by surprise this morning with a display of sudden bursts of energy and her nimble-footedness that would put any teenager to shame. She did the routine exercises with us and then went on to demonstrate a few of her club's numbers, beginning with ‘Damru Hasi’. She rolled her tongue, plucked the air and launched into a frenetic finger wagging spree that no one could keep pace with (top pic). A variation of this followed with a high-pitched warble and then another...
Shekhawat was thrilled to bits and joined the lady in the middle (bottom pic). Nafisa Sayyad was even more excited when it came to the ‘Angateyethe Hasi’ – something she had patented as the ‘Lalita Pawar act’. Like one possessed by spirits, the lady swayed and shuddered, tongue jutting out and stomping the ground while Shekhawat, laughing his guts out, mimicked her in the belief it was a new dance she was teaching. He just needs an excuse to dance and this was completely up his street!
Marveling at the stamina and expertise of this human dynamo, we raised an extra laugh in her honour and invited her to join us every morning for the time she is in Mumbai.
Jagmohan Papneja:
We must explore the possibility of adding a different format of laughter and not be held hostage to the existing techniques.
Bhaswati Bose:
You are right, Jagmohan-ji. But for that we need to hold a General Body Meeting and have 'free and fair' voting!
Jagmohan Papneja adds:
Bhaswati-ji, past experience shows that all the discussions and talking in meetings yield no results. It is a futile exercise. Please suggest other ways!
