Women’s Day - 2014

It was International Women’s Day – but celebrated with a difference. For the first time in Club history, we decided to salute the spirit of womanhood by felicitating the quintessential lady member in our midst.
 WOMAN OF THE YEAR
Everybody wants to felicitate Santosh Tyagi
And by popular vote, the males chose Santosh Tyagi as the WOMAN OF THE YEAR - 2014.
This departure from the norm took many by surprise. Yesterday, soon after the exercises, all the ladies surrounded the four silly-looking men visible and demanded that they ought to celebrate Women’s Day this year. “How you do it is your business, but we want a special treat from the men tomorrow,” was Harbans Kaur’s ultimatum.

With Monthi Serrao, Geeta Sardhana, Bhaswati Bose, Sunita Jajodia and other ladies lending their weight to this unusual demand, the men realized they were badly outnumbered and had no choice but to accede. “Yesh, of coursh… of coursh,” Shekhawat said shaking his head, knowing well that at such short notice (and worse, shortage of men) nothing proper can be organized.
That was when the Woman of the Year idea was floated. To simplify matters, all male members were given two criteria to cast their vote for the most ‘popular lady member of the Club’: one, exemplary track record of punctuality/ attendance and two, adjustable/ cooperative temperament.
WINNERS ALL: Santosh with her girl pals
Voting was done by secret ballot this morning.
For reasons of ensuring impartiality, a non-member, Banoo Khan was asked to open the chits and declare the winner.
Banoo is overjoyed!
As guest of honour, she presented Santosh with a red rose and gave her the first bite from a luddoo.
Mohan Kanwar Shekhawat was declared the first runner-up while Razia Khan emerged second runner-up.
The love and admiration Santosh enjoys in the Club was on abundant display soon after the rose presentation when a mad scramble broke out to stuff her with luddoos. Even a normally reticent Ved Prakash Grover was seen behaving out of character. So happy was he for Santosh that he not just fed her with a luddoo, but repeatedly smeared her face with its sticky, sugary granules. It was Santosh Tyagi’s day all the way. Many congratulations to her!
