Karmic Connection

Thakur (in green tee) comes enquiring about Shekhawat's health
The difference one man can make to the Club’s morale was on view this morning. Resurfacing after a week, Hari Singh Shekhawat entered the Garden in a blaze of effusive joy and warm hugs and handshakes from members and non-members alike. But more than that, attendance for the exercises shot up magically to 20-plus, and everything looked hunky dory. Barring some members currently out-of-town, almost everyone was present today. Even Yusuf Rassiwala, Ram Shankar Shukla and Sunita Jajodia turned up for Shekhawat. Clearly, the man enjoys a peculiar karmic connection with the Club that he alone can explain.
Word had obviously got around big time (ref post of October 27) about his sudden indisposition and delicate health the whole of last week.
Sunita Jajodia
He hasn’t quite recovered yet but the sight of him brought such relief to Bijoy Gupta that he instantly relinquished his long-standing claim for chairmanship of the Club! Nahid Khan though, gave Shekhawat a thorough dressing down: “What do you want to prove by still wearing half-pants and t-shirt? Are you a child? Don’t you know that you should cover your badan fully when there are so many mosquitos in the Garden?”
An equally concerned Lakshmi Hadimani came running, soon to be followed by other non-members like Chaudhry, Swati, Thakur, Fehmida Khan… all wanting to know what had happened to Shekhawat. When he pleaded ignorance, Nahid blurted out, “He’s suffering from loveria!” That was enough for Shekhawat to get back to his former jocular self and red-faced, narrated how crestfallen he had become when two of his saalis abandoned him last week.
One was obviously, Sunita Jajodia. But she was present today, a crepe bandage firmly wrapped around her right arm. She explained that much as she would like to come every day, on doctor’s advice she must refrain from exercising. She is undergoing physiotherapy as her arm is still hurting. She cannot even lift her hand overhead.
We can only hope and pray that she gets some relief soon and is back to her former, healthy self.
