Bihari Milwani leaves |
This is a new phenomenon. “The least these people can do is to excuse themselves before leaving, if not take permission,” observed Yusuf Rassiwala. “It is the minimum courtesy expected of them. But to simply walk away in the middle of the exercises? Once in a while can be understood, but every day?"
Time was when Srichand Arora (in his capacity as club president) used to pick on late-comers (including those ambling around the walking track) enjoining them to gather for the exercises on time. His word was law and everybody obeyed.

The issue came up for discussion this morning when the question of admission of a new member was raised. The option is to either disregard the membership ceiling of 50 (as passed by a recent meeting) or make way for the fresher(s) by first weeding out all irregular and undisciplined members.
Indeed, eliminating even a single name from the membership list is not a happy exercise. But to overturn well-deliberated decisions taken by the general body is not a happy practice either. It robs the management of all credibility and weakens the foundations of a Club so young. It is just about a year since Big Laaf could obtain recognition from the government.
How the Club gets out of this quandary would determine its health and stability for the future.
Bihari Milwani:
Morning alarm. After waking up, everyone goes to sleep. So do the members named above -- make everyone start exercise and then go away.
Harish Wadhwa:
Well, I can only see from today's blog that Mrs Harbans Kaur and Mrs Monthi Serrao are looking great seeing the pics on the laptop. I am sure they have wonderful memories of the trip. And get well soon Mrs Kiran Arora and Mrs Neelam Choudhary. Want to see you recover soon and enjoy life.
Kiran Prakash:
Our club comprises people who are health enthusiasts and fun-loving. They are expected to come every day, on time and participate in the entire exercise regime. Then why should we continue to tolerate members on our rolls who seldom come to the Garden and do not attend the full exercise? We are not obliged to have them.

I am, for sure, in favour keeping the limit to 50 members. Let's have members who come. Once this is taken care of, I sincerely urge the members to think beyond Garden. Can we bring some SOME LAAF, SOME SMILE among people around us? Can we go to old age homes, orphanages, etc.? We may spend at least half an our with the inmates, cheer them up, distribute our old clothes... and do something even more. This will certainly give us the satisfaction of 'giving back' to society. I sincerely appeal all members to come together and do something like this. Can we discuss this on Saturday, December 12 in the Garden after the exercises are over?
P.S.: If the club management is keen to keep non-sincere members on the rolls (for whatever reason), we may have a separate list of special members (read 'non-sincere') up to a maximum of five. But the ceiling of 50 must be there. Let us ensure that emotions and personal relations do not rule the club. The club should go by its constitution and decisions taken in the AGM.

Well I can only say from today's blog that Mrs. Harbans Singh and Mrs. Monthi Serrao are looking great seeing the pics on the Laptop. I am sure they have wonderful memories of the last trip.

Big LAAF, our club, is a group of people who are fun loving and health enthusiasts. The members are expected to come everyday, on time, except in exceptional situations and participate in entire exercise regime. If that is true, why should we continue to have members on our record who seldom come to the Garden and have never attended the entire exercise in last one year. We are not obliged to have them. Instead we should have members who will come regularly on time and contribute to the growth of the club. Alternatively we can have a dynamic list of members which will keep on changing. This list will be reviwed every quarter and members will be dropped or included depending upon their attendance data during the previous quarter. I am, for sure, in favour keeping the limit to 50 members. Let's have members who will come. Once this is taken care of, I sincerely urge the members to think beyond Garden. Can we bring some SOME LAAF, SOME SMILE, among people around us. Can we go to old age homes, orphanage etc to spend at least half an our with them, cheer them up, distribute our old clothes, do something more. This will certainly give us some satisfaction of giving back to society. It will touch their heart too. I sincerely appeal all members to come together and do something like this to give back to the society. I will be thankful if you come forward. Can we discuss this on Saturday, 12th December in the Garden after exercises are over. Regards to all.
If the club management is keen to keep few non sincere members on the list, for whatsoever the reason may be, can have a separate list of special members (read non sincere) , up to a maximum of five. But the ceiling of 50 must be there. Let us ensure that emotions and personal relations do not rule the club. The club should go by its constitution and decisions taken in AGM.
