Mandatory Notice

Yusuf Rassiwala reads out the notice for the general body meeting on March 19, 2016
Yusuf Rassiwala today read out the notice for the next general body meeting of Big Laaf – on Saturday, March 19, 2016 in the China Hut at 8:00 a.m.
He also listed out seven items on the agenda to be discussed, thus paving the way for a new managing committee to assume charge for the next two years beginning April 1, 2016.
In his capacity as Chairman Emeritus, Yusuf R thus fulfilled a mandatory obligation of giving members a clear 15-day notice to attend the general body meeting.
None of this however, came as any surprise since the various items to be discussed were drawn in consultation with a cross-section of members over the past few days. The final formality of obtaining members’ consent was completed yesterday before it was decided to approach Yusuf R to formally issue the notice this morning.

Amid all this, the bigger sensation of the morning was a series of images appearing in the Big Laaf group of WhatsApp which is turning out to be a much more popular, vibrant and interactive platform than this blog.
In fact, the dropping of yesterday’s post was hardly noticed as members went into a tizzy over a series of hilarious visuals showing up on their mobile phones – Breaking News on television, magazine stories with photos on developments in the Club, etc. The biggest spoof was a visual of a three-volume compendium, priced at Rs1,500 on how to win the Woman of the Year award.
Swati Punjabi (ext right) regales with her inimitable sense of humor
Supposedly authored by this year’s winner, Bhaswati Bose (ref post of February 25), it was offered to Swati Punjabi at a discounted price, primarily because she was the only one to believe in the authenticity of the books.
But when told to read them carefully in full, Swati developed cold feet. “No baba, you all read,” she spluttered. “If I am to go by those books, I’d get the trophy only in 2030!”
This lady sure has a terrific sense of humour!
Meanwhile, Zarina Khan celebrated her birthday with choco-bars, thereby putting a number of us in a spot. After all, she had treated us to an unforgettable repast just the other day (ref post of February 27) leaving many to wonder how many times does she celebrate a birthday. Gita Latte couldn’t help asking her innocently: “Is it your birthday sach-muchh today also?” Yusuf R presented Zarina the Club's personalised desk calendar while the rest of us rejoiced and sang the birthday song. Once again, this is wishing her many happy returns of the day.
