Cruel Game

Going through the grind
The weather is playing funny games on us. One day it is dark and wet and the very next, it is bright and sunny. One morning it is incredibly cool and pleasant and the very next, it is unbearably hot and humid.
Today was our bad day. It was supposed to rain heavily (as per the weather bureau forecast) but we were left with a blazing sun, parched throats and bodies dripping in sweat.
In anticipation of a torrential downpour, an ‘orange alert’ had already been sounded for the weekend and citizens are advised not to stir outdoors unless absolutely necessary.
Kiran Prakash
Siba Prasad Maitra today suggested stocking vegetables, milk and other food essentials at home by way of abundant caution. From the civic authorities down to the local cop, everybody seems to be on an unprecedented 'monsoon alert'.
But then, as it always happens, nature contradicts what the weatherman predicts. Else, we should have been enjoying the early monsoon showers from the China Hut today rather than be gasping for breath out in the open. Naseer Putani Shah kept wheezing much of the time. Kiran Prakash felt so feverish that he did not even attempt to exercise this morning and remained seated on a bench. Abruptly he stood up and walked away while the exercises were still on.
Exercising in these cruel weather conditions can be stressful. People fall ill. But such is the nature of Big Laaf, attendance swells in times of distress. The reverse is also true. How else can the higher turnout today be explained when compared to just four showing up yesterday? This is the biggest joke of the season.

Lt Col Angad Singh (retd):
The weather has become unpredictable everywhere. It is scorching hot in North India. It is unbearable for children and senior citizens. Most of them stay indoors during daytime. Precautions are very important for all of us. We must obey nature.
