Pant Problem

Gupta-Shekhawat up to mischief
Who cares who wears what for the exercises? So long as it is comfortable to the wearer and does not violate the norms of decency, nobody has ever given this a second thought in the Garden. After all, we live in a free country.
But of late, the question of whether or not men in the Club ought to cover their legs has become a contentious issue. A section of the ladies led by Razia Khan, Khatoon Baig, Rukhsana Khan and others insist that it is time “chaddis” (or shorts) be banned from the exercises.
Bijoy Gupta, a prime advocate of shorts/ half pants, cannot believe that anyone can be serious about making such an outrageous demand. “What am I exposing while wearing shorts?” he pleads. “It’s just my knees and shins you can see, that's all. What’s wrong in it?”
But Arun Patil (obviously taken in by the ladies) is able to see a lot more and in his infinite wisdom, has

decreed that half pants shall not be permitted in the Club. “Better get yourself a pair of track pants immediately,” he instructed Gupta, who remains defiant as ever.
Many have sported half pants in the past – from Bose Babu to Dilip Babani to Angad Singh to Bihari Milwani… and having outgrown them over time, discarded them at their own convenience. Shekhawat too discarded his shorts after Gupta kept riling him for wearing “bathroom ka chaddi” to the Garden. Arun’s diktat served as a tipping point and now he comes dressed in grey track pants.
In effect, Gupta finds himself totally isolated (in his shorts) and is predictably looking for support. “I was just joking about the bathroom ka chaddi,” he entreated Shekhawat this morning. “Actually you looked quite smart in shorts. Why don’t you start wearing them again?”
Shekhawat is no fool and knows exactly where his friend is coming from. He would rather leave Gupta to fight his battle all alone with Arun and watch the fun from a distance.

Bihari Milwani:
Times have changed. Over the years sports persons have realised that it is difficult to play or exercises wearing full pants. For example, Sania Mirza cannot play in full pants -- even though wearing shorts is against her religion.

Bihari Milwani:
Full pant toh buddhe pahente hai. Bachhe toh half pant aur frock pahente hai. Isliye sabh ladies koh bhi frock pahenna chahiei. I will sponsor the picnic expenses of all ladies who come in frock on Monday.
