Shekhawat briefs members on the prize-giving ceremony this week-end |
A dispute however, broke out over whether to have the awards’ presentation in the morning, or the evening. Bijoy Gupta, Bihari Milwani and a few others wanted to have it in the evening as it would attract a sizable crowd from the Garden. The majority opinion though, was for a low-key affair outside the China Hut soon after the exercises.
Members were also briefed on size and description of the cups to be given away on the occasion. These will be restricted to those standing first and second in each individual event, while those in the third place will be presented with medals. The three external judges will be given 'medals of commendation' from the Club.
As for the 'chief guest' who would present the awards, no final decision has yet been taken. A couple of options are being examined, though the preference would be for a celebrity, especially from the sporting field. The question is who, among us, would have the gall to approach say, a Mohinder Amarnath to give away prizes for threading a needle, bursting balloons and the like! Think about it.
