Welcome home, Zaiyan! |
Zaiyan Khan in Thunder Bay - on a freezing day |
The little kid we had known as Razia Khan’s grandson is today, a strapping young man raring to break into the highly competitive world of computer professionals with a foreign degree under his belt.
Yet, Zaiyan Khan has not lost any of his childish innocence. “I can own a car in Canada now,” he boasted this morning, proudly displaying his freshly-minted international driving licence.
Zaiyan is here on a one-and-half month holiday from his college at Thunder Bay, Ontario
Bihari Milwani (r) presents memento to Yusuf Rassiwala |
This is no doubt music to the ears of Razia and mother, Tahira who have staked a great deal on Zaiyan’s future. Still, rather than depend entirely on financial support from home, the boy has been doing odd jobs to defray his education expenses in Canada. It has been tough going for him – even earning him a nasty bout of tendonitis of his wrists – but

Today, as Zaiyan stands on the threshold of a promising career, we can take pride in watching him grow from a little school boy, still wet behind the ears, to a responsible adult. Staying on foreign soil, all by himself, has helped him mature and more importantly, outgrow the influence of two dominating, but doting mother hens at home. Our blessings are with him.
Significantly, there was another cause for celebrating this morning. It was Yusuf Rassiwala’s wedding anniversary and as usual, it took Bihari Milwani to remind us of it. In fact, he had brought a beautiful memento yesterday (the actual day of the anniversary) but in Yusuf R’s absence, the presentation had to be put off for today. Pity, Mrs Niloufer Rassiwala could not make it to the Garden in the morning.
