Mistaken Identity

A character appearing in a popular TV serial has put Bose Babu (left) in a piquant situation. Repeated denials notwithstanding, people insist on identifying him as the “Dada-ji” of Amita Ka Amit being currently aired on Sony Entertainment TV. Having been brought up in the belief that there can be no person, dead or alive, who resembles him, Bose is now devastated. He does not know what to do.
A humble pen pusher with no starry ambitions, Bose was today accosted by three giddily star struck women convinced that he was THE actor. Earlier, during the exercises, he had spotted one of them on the walking track staring pointedly at him. Eventually, it took a stern ex-headmistress to come to Bose’s rescue and drill some sense into those delirious females. They walked away, visibly disappointed.
Just a few days back, it seems, this headmistress had to similarly intervene when a couple in the Garden debated over Bose looking “suspiciously familiar”. Only when she assured them that he was a hardcore Bengali and unlike the TV character, could not speak a word of Urdu to save his life, were the couple’s doubts put to rest.
And then there was this woman, today itself, who caught up with Bose’s wife and Monthi Serrao outside the Garden wanting to know if the “spectacled, knicker fellow smoking a cigarette” near the Gate acts on TV. Without batting an eyelid, Bhaswati replied, “Yes, you can take his autograph!” Monthi, who initially thought the woman had seen her also on TV, was obviously too preoccupied with the affairs of the Club. After all, she had just read out the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting (bottom pic) to an open house. Watch this space.

I really enjoyed reading about Bose Babu's 'identity crisis'. He deserves praise because at this stage in life, when one's space in society shrinks, his fan-following is increasing by leaps and bounds. A word of caution though: Your profile photo may be used by someone else!!!
