Matter of Principle

Rukhsana Khan (r) holds the gun to Shekhawat's head
Shekhawat disarms Rukhsana in a smart jujutsu move
The Club’s favorite ‘punching bag’ today came for an unexpected pat on the back early morning. It was completely well-deserved. The accompanying pictures may convey a different impression. But that is another story.
For the past week or so, Shekhawat was living with the ignominy of blame for having destroyed an expensive toy revolver Rukhsana Khan had brought him for the Annual Function play. Various ‘eye-witness' accounts have since been doing the rounds on how this happened. And nobody has got any wiser to date.
The point being missed though was that it was a borrowed revolver and Rukhsana was under obligation to return it in one piece. Little had she bargained that Shekhawat and Mumtaz Jahan would one day get into a wild scuffle over handling the revolver, resulting in its breakage -- beyond repair.
The tricky part was that it was an imported piece, the likes of which is not available in any local toy store. (Even if it is, nobody knows where.) According to Rukhsana, it cost 5,000-plus INR. With Mumtaz conveniently washing her hands off the incident, the blame squarely fell on Shekhawat. He too could have held Mumtaz responsible and got out of the mess. But on principle, he stuck his neck out, assuring Rukhsana that he would compensate her, whatever it takes.
Today he redeemed his promise. Much to the surprise of all present, he produced an exact replica of the revolver and presented it to Rukhsana (along with the old damaged piece). He did not say how he managed to get hold of it, except for a passing mention that “it had come from Dubai”. Suitably impressed, Yusuf Rassiwala declared, “We should all clap for him!”
The applause had barely died down when Shekhawat was back to his antics. He got into a scuffle in trying to disarm Rushsana after she playfully pointed the new revolver at Shekhawat’s head (see pics) threatening to blow his brains out. Clearly, a leopard cannot change its spots.
