Final Briefing

Tying up the loose ends for tomorrow's Sports Day
Members were put through a briefing session for the Sports Day tomorrow. Our ‘garden dog’ Mr Romeo (in pic) was also present. He too has an important role to play tomorrow. But about that, later.
It was mentioned that the proceedings will begin with a bang at 8:30 a.m. sharp with the Balloon Bursting contest. All participants are expected to report to the Garden by 8:00 a.m. for limbering up, heats, practice, etc. We do not want any injuries/ casualties to ruin our Sunday. Still, by way of abundant caution, Arun Patil has been told to deliver our medical kit to Rukhsana Khan at the earliest.
The second item would be Reverse Walking, followed by Spoon Race and Threading the Needle. In each case, the stretch to be covered was identified
Zarina Khan
with Yusuf Rassiwala volunteering to get us a six metre rope (or rassi, befitting his name) that shall serve as the breasting tape at the finishing line. It was also clarified that walking means landing both heels squarely on the ground -- and not just the fore soles, as in jogging.
This is where Mr Romeo shall have a key role to play. The moment anybody is seen surging ahead, especially during the Spoon Race, our loyal friend would be let loose.
"Look out, DOG is behind you!"
Even if he is untraceable tomorrow, the prospect of Mr Romeo snapping at the heels will be enough to put the fear of god (oops, dog) in the contestants.
Punning apart, plastic bottles for what was supposed to be pitthu (yesterday’s post) has to be sourced. After this event, our location will shift outside the China Hut for the Musical Chairs. Siba Prasad Maitra has agreed to bring his music box while Dilip Babani shall provide a stand-by.
An extra event was introduced today, by common consensus: BIG LAAF MARATHON. This shall be open-to-all and include all our cheerleaders, friends, acquaintances and regulars in the Garden. They would get the chance to race round the walking track and claim a handsome trophy in the end. This is purely a PR exercise – to strengthen bonding, create a sense of inclusiveness and possibly, raise our membership. Most important, it will make everyone happy.
The only dampener was that Zarina Khan will not be able to celebrate her birthday tomorrow. Her brother is critically ill and in ICU for the past two days. She looked worried. Let us hope and pray for his speedy recovery.
