Eid Lunch: An afternoon of good food, fun and conversation

Dilip Babani had rated the restaurant as 'A-1'. Muhammad Farooq described the food and service there as ‘divine’. Yusuf Rassiwala exulted over the ambiance, calling it ‘superb’. And Kiran Prakash maintained that there is no Chinese restaurant in our part of town better than China Gate.
So when Banoo Apa casually remarked (after the exercises) that the ladies better go to a parlour to get their make-up done for today's Eid Party, nobody raised an eyebrow.
As it turned out, the venue lived up to expectations, and more. Between 14 starters and eight

dishes in the main course, we were lavished with an unending stream of delicacies from cheese strings, potato crispies, spinach momos, onion rings and spicy corn (in veg) to every conceivable preparation in fish, chicken, prawn and crab (in non-veg). It began with a welcome drink -- red wine/ mocktail and wound up with a mind boggling variety of desserts, just too many to mention. And if that were not enough, there was Chinese tea to wash down all the stuff.
But in the end, people and conversations make a party memorable. And on this count too, we were not lacking – be it the 25-plus guests who graced the occasion, the constant jibes Bijoy Gupta took at Shekhawat and vice versa or Fahmida Khan’s rambling wisecracks, not to forget the songs, particularly Banoo Apa’s rendition of Saigal singing ‘Chikni Chameli’ and the biggest hit, Siba Prasad Maitra’s English version of ‘Hum tum ek kamre mein bandh ho’ (We two closed in a room and all keys are lost… Think what will happen, anything can happen!) in perfect tune and scale.
Significantly, we had Najma Shaikh showing up, overcoming the crippling handicap that had kept her virtually bedridden for the past one-and-half years. Tears of joy welled up in many eyes as she was wheeled in. She too could not control her emotions upon meeting us after such a long time.
Like everything else, this was too much of a good thing!

Very nice Eid party for our lovely BIG LAAF family. Lovely food. Lovely restaurant. Lovely drinks. Lovely atmosphere. Everyone enjoyed the party. All were happy and happy and happy.

This was an excellent party. We enjoyed very much. In fact, most of us were full with the variety of veg and non-veg starters. Though it was an Eid party, personal attention towards every member from Mrs and Mr Bose made it all the more special. Excellent venue, excellent food and lots of fun made the party a great success.
