Anti-Climax

Renu Babani was right in her comments yesterday. Nothing happened today. The silly, short fat Bengali troublemaker did not turn up in the morning and as Renu had predicted, things were back to “normal” in the Garden.
Nonetheless, many were disappointed – especially those who had missed the action yesterday and came in early this morning hoping to witness some fireworks. Word had got around in the past 24 hours about the high drama and to add fuel to fire, rumours abounded over the woman marshalling support to lay siege on the Club. As a result, all fat women entering the Garden gate became suspect. Ultimately, what we got was a no-show – an anti-climax to all the build-up since yesterday.
An unfortunate fall-out of the incident is that suddenly our Club has begun to attract attention from the most unlikely quarters. Somebody, it seems, has complained to Srichand Arora about we being a “noisy” lot and the attitude of some members was “not correct”. Ved Prakash Grover (left) of all the people, was singled out for laughing out too loud – such that residents of nearby buildings were losing sleep and waking up with a start every morning upon hearing him!
Furthermore, we are supposed to be playing music so loud that it can be heard in Shastri Nagar (Where is Shastri Nagar?) every morning. Hearing this, Yusuf Rassiwala came up with a ready solution: He suggested that all those disturbed by the Laughing Club should sound-proof their homes for which he was ready to supply the required glass panes for the windows. But to expect us to stop exercising in the morning or go away would be asking for too much.
Meanwhile, there’s news from Harish Wadhwa. An ardent theatre lover, he has met his comrade-in-arms in Ashok Banthia, the well known actor (of TV serials, plays and movies like Shanti, Bodyline, Chanakya, Mission Kashmir, Aankhein etc.) who comes to the Garden every morning for his walk. The two bonded instantly (right) and got into discussing the formation of an amateur theatre group, beginning with script-reading sessions during week-ends in the Garden. Those interested, please get in touch with Harish-bhai.
