Election Trail

The Club has become a happy hunting ground for poll contestants. Last year, a young pediatrician showed up unexpectedly at the Garden, soliciting votes as an Independent candidate. He lectured us first and then joined us for the exercises in right earnest. Even then, the poor fellow lost.
Today, the local Shiv Sena candidate for the February 16 civic polls, Rajutai Patil landed with folded hands (left pic) and a huge bindi on her forehead. Sitaram Hivarkar, Bapu Rane, Vandana and others recognized her instantly and promised to give her their all in support. In return she promised to remove all potholes from the roads of Oshiwara, ensure running water in taps 24x7, keep the area crime-free, garbage-free, pollution-free, mosquito-free, straydog-free, even Congress-free, NCP-free, BJP-free… A lady
requested her kindly to raise the height of election hoardings at street corners as she continually hurt her head by bumping onto them. Patil said it was a “minor problem”.
Otherwise, it was a fun-filled morning with almost 30 members turning up for the exercises. Ramila Mistry (right) was among them, appearing after almost three months as she had been tied up with the engagement ceremony of her daughter. She informed everybody that the boy is of her community, settled in London and working as a chartered accountant there. To celebrate this “match made in heaven”, she distributed divine kesar peda among those present, soon after the exercises.
Renu Babani's PICSPEAK:
* "Who is this lady standing amongst us with her followers? Honestly, no idea..."
* "Help yourselves. Never mind the calories!"
Harish Wadhwa:
Ramila-ji was kind enough to compensate me with a chocolate for the kesar-peda that I missed yesterday. My good wishes on the engagement of her daughter. Thanks very much.
