Raksha Bandhan

Monthi Serrao had been nursing a grouse since yesterday. Together with Harbans Singh, Santosh Tyagi, Nahid Khan, Sushma Gupta and some other ladies, she repeatedly demanded of Srichand Arora: “Hum Aaapke Hain Kaun?” The latter, least expecting a filmi line to roll out of Monthi’s tongue, was stumped for words. Later, much later, did he realize that he was being targeted because of Geeta Sardhana.
As she had made him her brother, he was duty-bound to lavish her with gifts on Raksha Bandhan Day today. And all the other ladies of the Club felt deprived of their ‘entitlement’ -- despite harboring equally strong sisterly feelings towards Arora!
Well, as the privileged one, Geeta got to tie the sacred thread (rakhi) on Arora’s wrist (pics alongside) in a quiet, but charming ceremony in the Chinese Hut, soon after the exercises. Both had come formally dressed for the occasion – Geeta in a lovely free-flowing lilac-‘n’-mauve ensemble while Arora, for once, was in tucked-in, full-sleeved check shirt and grey trousers. They presented a wonderful pair – more so, because neither does Arora have a sister of his own, nor Geeta a brother of her own. [In this, the Club can claim some credit because it was through this blog that Arora had expressed a desire to have “so many sisters” (see post of August 24, 2010) two years ago – on Raksha Bandhan day. Last year, Geeta gracefully responded to his wishes and tied him a rakhi (post of August 13, 2011).]
Coincidentally, it was also Arun Patil’s birthday today (right pic). So while there were the Raksha Bandhan sweets circulating around, we had a double bonanza with food boxes from Eden -- a reputed eatery in Lokhandwala. The assortment of items was so fresh and appetizing that all talk on packed food yesterday (see post) was clearly forgotten. Surely Arun knows to celebrate in style. This is wishing him, once again, many happy returns of the day and many, many more birthdays to come.
