It is vacation time for school kids now. So it does not come as any surprise that many members are taking it easy. Some have gone out of station. Others are either turning up late for the exercises or absconding altogether. For the few who continue to be regular, the mornings are reserved for fun and games and faffing about with friends (pics alongside). To them, exercising is only incidental.
Generally, those playing truant can be slotted into three categories. The most common are the ones like Nafisa Sayyad, Hem Chand Jain, Kiran Sajjan and Najma Sayed whose appearance in the Garden is more of an event than their absence. Then there are people like Ram Shankar Shukla, Dilip Babani and Yusuf Rassiwala who enjoy playing jack-in-the-box, springing surprises all the time. They come and go at will and can be very, very unpredictable.
And then there are the counted few whose absence becomes a major talking point – all because they happen to be otherwise both regular and punctual. Kishor Babani, Khatoon Baig and Ved Prakash Grover fall into this rarefied category. Srichand Arora is yet another, as he continues with his disappearing act for the fourth day running. Lest anybody be alarmed, he has sent word that all is well – just that he has been chilling out with guests late into the night and oversleeping in the morning. After all, this is holiday season.
