False Start

We did not expect to see Khatoon Baig, Razia Khan, Nafisa Sayyad… not till the end of the Holy Month of Ramzan (around August 20). They had accordingly said their good-byes yesterday, only to show up in full strength this morning. Apparently the moon had not been sighted and they had got a breather before starting their daily roza (fasting).
A minor dispute broke out with Nahid Khan, who started her roza from today. She could not figure out why her maulvi should mislead her on the start of Ramzan today when everyone else had deferred their roza. Razia anyhow convinced her that Ramzan or no Ramzan, having started the fasting from today, she must not interrupt it now.
The rains provided another false start. After getting badly drenched yesterday (see post), many of us were not too keen on taking chances today. But Shekhawat was insistent and like a military commander, led us gallantly into the Garden – the dark clouds overhead notwithstanding. Within seconds the skies opened up and we scurried back into the Chinese Hut. Miraculously, no sooner had we got in than the skies cleared out and the rain stopped. Not once did it rain thereafter. We could as well have exercised outside.
Surely, we should always expect the unexpected.
