Wet Spell

An early morning cloudburst put paid to all hopes of exercising out in the open. Still, Shekhawat made an attempt to lead us into the Garden as the rains had almost subsided by 7.00 a.m. But he was outshouted by Razia Khan and Co and we had perforce to be confined to the Chinese Hut through the exercises, from start to finish.
Significantly, ladies outnumbered the male members 15 to 6 today – which only goes to explain why they are regarded as not only the dominant, but stronger sex in the Club. While most men panicked at the sudden downpour and remained home-bound, the former waded past overflowing drains and slippery sidewalks to keep their appointment in the Garden.
But then, exercising in the Chinese Hut has its downside. Not only is it claustrophobic and restricts free movement of the arms, the space constraint plays peculiar tricks on the mind. Both Razia and Nahid Khan (who conducted the exercises) betrayed signs of memory lapse by skipping certain exercises and had to be prompted back on course. This is rather unusual for the two veterans for whom taking us through the daily routine is like second nature.
Or maybe, it had something to do with Friday the Thirteenth, who knows?
