Cashews to celebrate Teja Singh's grand-daughter's birthday

Relentless rains since early June have failed to dampen spirits in the Club. Unlike earlier years, when attendance drops sharply with the onset of monsoon, we continue to enjoy a healthy turnout of 15 to 20 on an average every morning. This is despite almost all Muslim members having taken a break because of Ramzaan. Obviously, there are compelling reasons for everyone to turn indifferent towards the rains and rush to the Garden first thing in the morning.
The venerable Teja Singh Bhambra offers a clue. He had just returned from Goa after an arduous road journey and was in the Garden for the exercises the following morning (yesterday’s post). Such are the vibes and the bonding he shares with the Club that he did not feel the need to rest at home. And this morning, he distributed packets of roasted cashew nuts he had brought from Goa to celebrate his grand-daughter's first birthday last month. Those were prime quality cashew nuts – peeled, roasted and salted -- so tempting that many took advantage of his generosity and slunk away with extra packets. And still, he had more packets to offer at the garden gate for anyone who wanted!
Srichand Arora loved the cashew so much that he called Arun Patil and instructed him not to spend money “unnecessarily” on treating everyone to sweets tomorrow morning. Instead, he should purchase two or three bottles of whiskey and some drinking glasses to celebrate his birthday in a unique way. “We already have the cashew, what we lack is the whiskey,” he reasoned. If anything, that was music to Shekhawat’s ears.

* I am sure the word 'whiskey' was music to the ears of many others as well. Given an opportunity, few (rather none) will resist, even at 8:00 in the morning. Lao toh sahee, baatli khatam hotey der nahin lagegi!
* Teja Singh-ji is such a humble and a kind-hearted soul. Not because of the goodies he distributed, but the way he conducts himself. We have lots to learn from such seniors. May God bless you a long life, Badshaho and to your lovely grand-daughter.
