Kiran Prakash is cornered by the extortionists

Kiran Prakash was taken by surprise this morning when he found himself literally ambushed by the Club’s ‘dreaded terrorists’ soon after the exercises. Not just Bhaswati Bose and Kajal Babani, three others –Yusuf Rassiwala, Geeta Latte and Swati Panjabi gheraoed him in the Garden and refused to let him go till he agreed to throw a party within the next 48 hours, or else…
It did not take Kiran Prakash long to figure out how he had invited this situation upon himself. His birthday was last month, on March 16 and he had kept the celebrations on hold due to the low turnout those days. Thereafter, he had forgotten all about it and obviously expected others to have a similar memory lapse.
There was another reason also. Yusuf R had left standing instructions before leaving for Dubai that there should be no celebration in the Garden till he returned. So Kiran Prakash tried to shift the blame to Yusuf R, indirectly pleading as man to man that he be rescued from the clutches of his female tormentors.

enough to thank her for such thoughtful gestures.

Little did he know that even Yusuf R was already hand in gloves with them.
So he swiftly changed tack and announced he was leaving for Bangkok on vacation next Monday (April 10) and he would be happy to treat everybody in the Club upon his return.

Again, it was a sorry miscalculation. For the instant response was that he would “in any case be bringing back chocolates” and that can be no substitute for the long-pending birthday bash!
Ultimately, Kiran Prakash was left with no choice but to succumb under pressure. He left his extortionists to decide on the menu for a Saturday party and instructed them to spare no cost in ensuring that it be a grand affair. As a parting shot, he informed he would be busy preparing for his Bangkok trip and that he might not be able to show up in the Garden from tomorrow. “Happy Saturday!” he wished everyone and left jubilantly.
Post Script: If anything, this post establishes one fact: Kiran Prakash has not only endeared himself in a relatively short time but also grown in stature as a Club elder with whom we can take liberties. This does not happen with everybody. We can make demands only on those we consider our own.

* Don't know how I missed reading this post. It's always a pleasure to treat fellow members in the small way I do. That's nothing compared to the affection I get from everyone in the Club, yes everyone. I consider myself fortunate that I am a member of Big Laaf and I have people around me who are so affectionate and considerate. I dearly value this association and will protect it at all costs. Little 'chik-chik' is the part of the drama I keep on playing.
