It is only the second day since the announcement of the 14th edition of Pehchaan Kaun (ref post of April 2) and already most people have firmed up on the identity of the person featured in the contest – just that there is no clear consensus on whether the picture is that of a male or a female!
While some like Arun Patil believe it could either be Nahid Siddiqui or Naseem Khan (because of the “soft features” in the pic), there are many who insist it is none other than Bijoy Gupta (because of his “high cheekbones”). Karun Sharma is another strong male suspect even as he is trying hard to deflect attention onto a female – Bhaswati Bose.
Geeta Latte is also attracting many pointed fingers such that she had to complain about being constantly hounded in the last two days by repeat queries on her shoe size and address. She described this as “emotional torture” – particularly the phone calls she is receiving day and night at home. An ever-helpful Kiran Prakash offered to put his neck on the line (“Why is nobody mentioning my name?”) so that Geeta is spared. But to no avail.
Siba Prasad Maitra took Geeta aside and asked her to truthfully disclose her shoe size and house address only to him. As an incentive, the astute businessman offered to even split the spoils, i.e. crystal trophy. “We’ll make it adha-adha (half-half) when I win,” he promised her in all earnestness!
Maitra had it lined up as he walked into the Garden this morning, little expecting all eyes to be on his white plastic bag instead of him. He had brought jelly sweets for us. But till he took them out, an air of suspense hung heavy over the exercises with Nahid Khan and Bhaswati Bose even making some not-so-discreet sorties to check the contents of the white bag. Finally, unable to contain himself, Kiran Prakash requested Maitra (on our behalf) to open the bag. The mad scramble for the sweets that followed had only to be seen to be believed.
