Come monsoon and it will be raining parties in the Club. As many as seven birthday celebrations are lined up in July – from that of Banoo Apa to Yusuf Rassiwala Bhaswati Bose and Razia Khan. At no other time of the year were so many Big Laaf members born. Then there are any number of unscheduled and impromptu dos – not to mention two major Eid parties in the offing. In effect, every alternative day of the month could be a party day from now on.
Fahmida Khan inaugurated the so-called ‘party season’ on July 1 with her surprise Eid bash (ref Saturday post).

The priceless memento

Today, it was the turn of the Bose couple celebrating their wedding anniversary. And the man who never makes a mistake with dates (or numbers), very appropriately kickstarted the celebrations.

for the occasion -- but with a difference. At the centre of the body copy, there were two circular magnets affixed as part of the text that read as follows: ‘Big Laaf family sends greetings and wish that in the years to come, in every thought and in every action, like these two magnets…(pix) …shall always remain together. A Very Happy Wedding Anniversary.'

Whoever conjures such magnificent tokens of beauty in this time and age? More than remembering the date (that’s a given) or even the time and effort spent in designing the priceless memento, it was Bihari’s imagination on display that left us all stumped. Usually the presenting of such gifts in the past was met with a perfunctory round of applause; but today, everybody was at a loss of words – especially after the text on the calendar was read out aloud.
Not everybody is so fortunate to be touched by such generosity of spirit. We feel privileged and blessed having Bihari in our midst. Small wonder, he is greeted every morning by the Club with a chorus of “Baanke Bihari Lal ki Jai”!
