Election Notice

Karuna Waghmare celebrates with sweets on turning par-nani
Notice was today given for the Club to hold its next biennial election before the term of the present managing committee expires on March 31, 2018. All those interested to contest were requested to submit their names to Yusuf Rassiwala, Chairman (Emeritus) immediately, if not earlier.
As per the Club's constitution, up to a maximum of nine members (and a minimum of three) may be voted to the managing committee. They would in turn pick the office bearers, i.e. President, Secretary and Treasurer from within themselves. In exceptional cases, the tenure of a managing committee member can be extended from two years to four at the very maximum.
Although no specific date for the election was given this morning, the legal prerequisite of a 15-day notice needed to be adhered to. In effect, we are free to have the election any day after March 22 – the most likely dates being the week-end Saturdays of March 24 and March 31.
But then, there’s a little hitch. Shekhawat is currently away (ref yesterday’s post) and when he returns on March 19, he would get started on collecting subscriptions (for renewal of annual membership) for the next financial year.
As per the Club’s bye-laws, only those who pay up (and “against whom there are no outstanding dues”) for retaining their membership next year will be eligible to participate in the election. At the same time, the bye-laws are silent about when to hold the election. All it says is that the “managing committee will continue to be in office till the succeeding committee takes over”.
By inference we are at liberty to sit pretty, till probably the AGM some time in August – just that postponing the inevitable is never a good idea. A collective call needs to be taken.

Bihari Milwani:
Karuna is just a sweet-16 and has already become par-Nani. What she will be when she completes 100 years?

Lt Col Angad Singh (retd):
Election is an important event in the life of a Club. This ritual should be done when due. We should not postpone it unnecessarily. Also, my heartiest congratulations to Karuna-ji for becoming par-Nani.

Election is an important event in the life of a Club. This ritual should be done when due. It is most desirable to fulfill this duty when due. We should not postpone the event unnecessarily.
Congratulations to Karuna ji for becoming par Nani.
