Women’s Day 2019

Karun Sharma sins paens on 'woman power'
Karun Sharma saved our face – and the day. Were it not for him, we would have given Women’s Day a clean miss. Even the ladies had overlooked the significance of March 8, so absorbed were they with Zarina Khan’s birthday celebration.
Of course, Bihari Milwani had reminded us earlier and accordingly, we raised two extra laughs – one for Women’s Day and the other, for Zarina. But following the presentation of her calendar and singing the birthday song, the main occasion was getting sidetracked.
Karun intervened with a prepared script that extolled the qualities of women and the need to celebrate them on their special day. It was in the nature of a ‘motivational poem’ urging our ladies (including Zarina) to surge ahead and break new frontiers while living it up in life. He kept it short and sweet but the impact was resounding.
Banoo Apa presents Zarina
Khan the birthday calendar
Fahmida presents a rose
Bijoy Gupta belts out a film song
Partying outside the gate
Bijoy Gupta, as usual, belted out a filmy number while Fahmida Khan sprung a pleasant surprise by presenting the birthday girl with a red rose. Zarina had packed some salties and savories in al-foil boxes for each of us and separately arranged for some vada-pao and steaming hot tea at the garden gate. In that sense, we had a double treat today.
As they say, it always pays to wait. We kept our patience for five long days, since the date Zarina was to celebrate her birthday (yesterday’s post). The best news is that her brother is being discharged from hospital today. So for her also, it was a double celebration – if not a triple!

Anonymous: Let me wish Zarina Aunty 'many happy returns of the day'!
