Big Relief

Hari Singh Shekhawat could heave a sigh of relief today when he learnt that the Club has abandoned the idea of paying him a visit on Dussehra (ref post of August 30). Currently twiddling his thumbs in a remote village in faraway Rajasthan, he has been in constant fear of a chartered bus arriving suddenly at his doorstep and disgorging a bunch of grinning members bent upon making life miserable for him.
Bijoy Gupta even pranked him a week back by informing that 60 people from the Garden had already boarded a bus and were headed towards Rajasthan in order to avail of his hospitality.

“I will be on pilgrimage at Mathura-Vrindavan during that time,” Shekhawat lied to Gupta in the hope that it would deter the Club from proceeding any further – better still, send the lot back to Mumbai.
Luckily for Shekhawat, the rains came to his rescue. So even if he had any plans to 'escape' to Mathura-Vrindavan, there was no way he could venture out. “It is still raining heavily all over Rajasthan,” he apprised us this morning on phone. “We are getting one or two thunder showers every day. But I am not liking this any more. I feel trapped inside the house. In one week, on September 8, I shall be back in the Garden.”
Evident from Shekhawat’s talk was how much he was missing the Club. The good news is that unlike earlier visits to his native village, he has not fallen ill this time and in fact, feels “quite energetic”. He also empathised with Gupta’s medical condition that would require a prostate surgery and the plight of members affected by the recent bank scam.
