The 15-odd minutes prior to the exercises have become an important time slot in our early morning schedule. This is when those who come in early cool their heels and engage in some spirited talk across three benches near the Garden gate. It could range from poking fun at one another to discussing the weather, potato prices, cricket, mosquitoes, movies… nothing serious, just time-pass. Yet things usually get so interesting that long before the sun rises (hence the grainy pic ), the regulars would park themselves on the benches, lest they miss a part of the action.
Today, even the exercises got delayed because Nafisa Sayed was in full form, taking on Shekhawat for zabardasti herding everybody to Goa by air (yesterday’s post). It seems that her husband had called her “mad” for wanting to see the clouds from atop an aircraft. And her son had called her a “fool” for missing out on the beautiful scenery that only a train ride could afford. With Nahid Khan (who had booked her tickets by train) adding fuel to fire, Nafisa came in convinced that Shekhawat had made her a perfect “ullu”. Regardless of the many explanations the latter kept giving her, she threatened (in light vein, of course) to bring her husband to the Garden and “show him this man called Shakhaawat”! With everyone in splits at this hilarious exchange, the exercises were almost given a go-by, till somebody reminded them that it was already past 7:10 a.m.
Would these people ever grow up?
