‘Happening Club’

Sudipto Chatterjee

Sudipto Chatterjee, a retired advertising professional, calls us the ‘most happening club’. He is not a member, but visits the Garden every morning and occasionally drops by looking for a cigarette lighter. “Anybody can see that you guys are having a lot of fun,” he says. “I have never seen so much energy in any other club anywhere.”
Regular readers of this blog would share Chatterjee’s impression -- as indeed many morning walkers who often stop in their tracks just to gawk at our antics.

Part of a day's work

It would appear that we can have nothing better to do in life than play the fool, laugh, eat and be merry. We sing and dance on members’ birthdays, celebrate national festivals with gusto, rejoice when someone returns from a holiday, go out on excursions, click pictures… and even exercise.
With all our laughter and tomfoolery, there would be occasional grim moments when one of us falls ill or comes to grief in some manner. Very often lending a sympathetic ear can help in times of distress. And then, there could be serious business to transact, such as convening meetings, holding elections, etc. Today, Harish Wadhwa brought a sheaf of legal papers for the signatures of members of the managing committee… all part of a day’s work.
Truly, there can never be a dull morning in the Club.
