Party Hangover

THE party pic that says it all!
Scraps from last evening’s Eid party at Yusuf Rassiwala’s place hung heavy this morning. The general buzz was how well-organized it was despite inclement weather, the grace and modesty of the hosts, choice of food and refreshments on offer, the entertaining jokes and singing sessions and most importantly, the rare opportunity for all the members to meet outside the Club and let their hair down. As everyone agreed, there was no room for any complaint.
But Yusuf had reasons to complain.
Arora accepts condolences
He had personally invited everyone from the Club without exception and was successful in ensuring the presence of almost 90 percent of his invitees. Those who had not turned up included Ram Shankar Shukla, Mallika Kagzi, Razia Khan, Sitaram Hivarkar and Arun Patil.
Razia Khan
Yusuf was so cross that he didn’t even wait for them to make an excuse. “But you were supposed to come,” he insisted. Sitaram spoke of some domestic issues, but Yusuf was in no mood to listen. “Still you should have come,” he repeated, obviously hurt.
While Arun pleaded his car had a break-down and Mallika apologized for the demise of a close relative, Razia’s excuse was the best. “I had a meeting to attend,” she announced, not realizing how hollow it sounded. Much as she was to qualify it later as an “important meeting”, this became the running joke of the morning and the sporting lady that Razia is, she took all the leg-pulling in her stride, including Shekhawat’s pointed jibes that she was showing up “after one month and 10 days”. She soon turned the tables on him, but that is another story.
Meanwhile, everybody took turns to commiserate with Srichand Arora on the untimely demise of his brother-in-law. He had succumbed to intestinal cancer last week (see post of July 31). He was only 62. Through Arora, we conveyed our condolences to his wife, Kiran as well.
