Sardonic Humour

Position of Pride
We caught a glimpse of Kiran Prakash’s sense of sardonic humour this morning. Yesterday, while resting his aching knees in the China Hut, Shekhawat unceremoniously unseated him from his chair saying that he was blocking his view and that he should shift to another chair. The ‘view’ had to do with one of his four make-believe saalisRukhsana Khan. Shekhawat wanted her to be perennially within his range of vision.
Ridiculous as this may sound, nobody really minds such crackpot logic from Shekhawat. We all know his nature.
Kaju katli from Harbans Kaur
But Kiran, being relatively new in the Club, did not expect Shekhawat to be so brash as to unseat him because of a woman. He swallowed his pride for the moment and shifted to another chair, only to get back at Shekhawat this morning. He came with a large placard marked ‘RESERVED FOR RUKSANA-JI’ in bold print and placed it squarely on a chair, directly in Shekhawat’s line of vision. So, if this saali wanted to ever rest, she would occupy only that chair and Shekhawat could well enjoy the view!
It takes a stroke of genius for someone to come up with something like this to get even.
Picnic preparations: Kiran Prakash is third from right
But being a gentleman of principles, Kiran instantly rued hurting anyone’s sentiments, only to discover that no one was more amused than Shekhawat himself. In fact, he was ecstatic beyond words and drew everybody’s attention to the chair bearing his saali’s name. He even packed the placard carefully and took it home after the exercises, an air of triumph around him!
On a serious note though, Shekhawat has succumbed to a growing demand for taking the Club on a picnic. The idea was initiated mainly by Harbans Kaur and Santosh Tyagi, just that neither was clear as to when and where exactly we must head to. Today, some clarity emerged about a certain Picxy Sea Resort at Gorai Beach, roughly a two-hour drive away. Shekhawat fixed the date for Valentine’s Day – next Saturday – subject to majority convenience.
A momentous morning (and a busy week) was brought to a happy ending with Harbans Kaur distributing kaju katli barfis – just for a lark. “There is no birthday, no occasion… just enjoy,” she declared. “Should there be a reason for everyone to be happy and leave with a sweet taste in the mouth?” Well, that’s the spirit!!!
Kiran Prakash:
Ha, ha, ha, ha! I am happy, relaxed and relieved of the morning anxiety.
Jagmohan Papneja:
Shekhawat-ji was so obsessed with his four saalis that he did not have any regard for Kiran Prakash. So Kiran Prakash displayed his emotions by putting up that placard on the chair.
Lt Col Angad Singh (retd):
This is hilarious! To enjoy the morning in such a relaxing mood gets you invigorated for the whole day.
