Thanksgiving Treat

The Aroras’ long-awaited phapda-jalebi treat materialized today. And what a lavish spread it was – not so much for the variety as for the quantity on offer and the oodles of love and camaraderie on display.
Ladies gang up together
As many pointed out, this was actually a feast -- enough to take care of breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The best part was the presence of Kiran Arora in our midst after a long, long time. And she claimed the first bite – a dhokla fed lovingly by her doting husband, Srichand Arora. For it was in her honour that the latter hosted today’s feast.
Last Monday when Shekhawat announced that Arora would throw a 'party' (on Thursday), the reason given was that he wanted to make up for missing out on Kiran’s birthday in June.

On Tuesday, Arora wanted to extend a personal invitation, but was not allowed to explain why he was having the party. Before he could complete his sentence, “I want to celebrate because…” some lady in the crowd cheekily quipped “…because I have become father”. And the rest was drowned in laughter.
On Wednesday, i.e. yesterday, Arora managed to complete his sentence. The celebration would be a measure of thanksgiving – the fact that his wife is able to walk now.
Men keep their distance
What however, remained unsaid was the extent of physical hardship and mental trauma she had endured for months on end till a knee replacement surgery could be done on her at Hindujas’ last July.
Together with her, the sense of hopelessness and anguish shared by her husband -- the series of medical tests, endless physio sessions, the everyday sacrifices and adjustments at home, running early morning to pathology labs, doctors mercilessly sending them on merry-go-rounds, the many agonizing nights staying awake… nobody would ever know of all this.
Sadly, Kiran hasn’t recovered fully and still suffers from occasional bouts of pain in the operated knee, usually at nighttime. But rather than complain and remain depressed, the Aroras would look at the positive side of things and celebrate their blessings, however small or big. Hence today’s big treat.
