‘Being in the Moment’

Session in progress
Life coach Karun Sharma today opened yet another window of our mind with a little tweak on his pet subject of finding inner happiness -- Doing and Being (Karna aur Hona). He shared with us anecdotes from his life, momentarily put everyone to sleep (not once, but twice) and had nearly throttled Santosh Tyagi with his bare hands in order to drive home his point: We aren't giving ourselves enough time to be ourselves.
“Make space in your life to enjoy yourself,” he exhorted the 25-odd Club members who had gathered
Karun Sharma
in the China Hut to hear him after the exercises. “Otherwise life becomes like a washing machine – routine, functional, predictable, monotonous, boring… Where is the room for pleasure in such a life unless we detach ourselves from our functions or work? You should never feel

that relaxation is a waste of time.”
Naseem Khan and Nahid Siddiqui admitted that being idle or relaxed made them feel guilty while Nahid Khan insisted that she derived “maximum pleasure” when she busies herself in tailoring clothes on her sewing machine. Santosh Tyagi argued that domestic chores gave her a sense of worth and purpose in life and that even while watching her favorite soap on TV, she would habitually multi-task by say, cleaning a bunch of methi saag.
Karun Sharma explained this attitude to our mental conditioning without us realizing what we were losing out on. “This is not to say that work has no relevance,” he elaborated. “But along with work, it is equally important to take time out and be ourselves for a while. Or else, our sense of happiness will be conditional to the work. And that conditionality is bad. It is self-defeating.”
The 40-minute session was followed by a round of tea and snacks, courtesy Geeta Latte. She has just received her passport after encountering some difficulty with the authorities and is now ready to take wing. For some reason, Bijoy Gupta believes that her first destination will be China!
Kiran Prakash:
We are fortunate to have Karun Sharma with us. He deals with topics that touches everyone's heart. He keeps on emphasising that happiness is within ourselves and it's futile to search for happiness in outside objects or people. His advice to look within ourselves does work miracles. Thanks, Karun.
Also, thank you Geeta for the treat. May your passport be stamped as early as possible. All the best.
Dilip Babani:
Thank you, Karun Sharma for all the information you shared with members of the Big Laaf family. It is very useful. The idea of sitting quietly for inner happiness is very helpful. Thanks a lot.
Lt Col Angad Singh (in Bangalore):
In today's world, money is all that matters. All of us are running after Lord Mammon. We have no time for ourselves or for our kith and kin. In the olden days, our ancestors used to enjoy the time spent with their colleagues, friends and relatives. They were a happy lot. Now we are trying to find out what happiness is. What a change! The Club members are lucky to receive such an insight from Mr Karun Sharma. I feel unhappy to miss all this because of my domestic problems. I wish all members a happy time. Relax and enjoy.
Yusuf Rassiwala:
Karun-ji, after reading the contents of your seminar in the blog and hearing from the members I feel I have missed a very informative and useful session. I would love to hear you soon. Please oblige. Thanks.

In todays' world it is money which matters. All of us irrespective of the age are running after Goddess Mamoth. We all have 'watches' to see that the 'time' is running short and the task of getting money for the day is not fulfilled. Alas, we have no time to ourselves or for our kith and kin to sit and enjoy. In olden days, our ancestors had 'time' hardly any watch. They enjoyed the time with their colleagues, friends and relatives. They were a happy lot. Now we are seeking to find out what happiness is. What a change! The Cl;ub members are lucky to have such an insight through Mr Karun Sharma. I feel unhappy to miss all this because of my domestic problems. I wish all members happy time, relax and enjoy.
