Funny Encounter

Malika Kagzi
Malika Kagzi had a strange encounter with Bijoy Gupta on phone yesterday. In her anxiety to put a name to the face in last Sunday’s photograph (ref post of April 2) she has been making random phone calls to all and sundry for the past five days, asking them about their feet size.
She was almost sanguine it had to be Geeta Latte, but when the latter also turned evasive -- even swearing in the name of God that the photograph was not of her -- Malika felt lost.

On an impulse, she turned to Gupta hoping that maybe, just maybe, it could be his wife Pushpa.
Gupta was enjoying his siesta when the phone rang. “I am Malika speaking,” a female voice crackled.
Haan bolo Manisha,” Gupta replied.
“No, I am not Manisha,” Malika corrected him. “I am your President…”
“Oh postman, bolo?” Gupta was still half-asleep.
“What is your wife’s shoe size?”
“What have you got to do with my wife’s shoe size?”

Gupta became suddenly aggressive. “Who is speaking?”
Malika gave up, convinced she was speaking to a man who was stone deaf. Still, she made a last ditch attempt and asked if, by any chance, the photograph in question could be of him or his wife’s. By then, the line had gone dead.
Narrating the incident today morning, Gupta informed that this was not the first time he had received such a call. “I jumped out of bed because it was a lady calling,” he said. “Otherwise I would not have taken the call. How am I to explain that even Pushpa does not know her shoe size? It could be 12 or 14 or anything. She has such huge feet. They don’t ordinarily make shoes that size.”
Meanwhile Geeta continues to draw maximum attention in the Garden as a strong suspect. Kiran Prakash even went on to capture her face from different angles on his mobile camera, presumably to run the images through a photo recognition software/ app nowadays available on certain smartphones. Let’s wait and see what comes of this.

Pehchaan Kaun is no small quiz. The way members are inquisitive show that it is well-contested and deserves a lot of mind wracking to reach the correct answer.
