Mental Workout

Champions all... in the game of numbers today
What started as casual time-pass in the Club has now become a hilarious game of testing our mental agility and alertness. If anything, it was an open admission of the need to challenge our brains with exercises to prevent its degeneration with advancing age.
Kiran Prakash hit upon this idea when he gathered a few members last Monday to “play a fun game of numbers” in the China Hut soon after the exercises. The trigger was presumably Shekhawat having forgotten to wear a shirt to the Garden (ref post of June 3) and blissfully turning out in his innerwear for the exercises.
The game was an instant hit. It involved rattling out numbers by turn (either in Hindi or English) and clapping on the count of 10, 20, 30… Failing to do so at the right moment would invite elimination – and of course, a volley of laughter. In the end you were left with just two players and then, one – the winner.
Simple as this may all sound, in practice it called for razor-sharp alertness and more importantly, perfect coordination between the brain and hand movement (for the clap). Significantly, the most unlikely people got knocked out in the preliminary rounds today. And guess who survived till the end?
Ironically enough, it was Shekhawat. He bowed out only in the penultimate round!
Lt Col Angad Singh (retd):
Hurrah! The so-called forgetfulness on the part of Shekhawat has opened an avenue of brain games for club members. It is also quite crazy that the winner in the game today is Shekhawat.
