Taking Guard

Meeting of Managing Committee in progress
Anjana Prakash (l) is 'coronated' by Siba Prasad Maitra
The first meeting of the newly-elected Managing Committee of the Club was held this morning with the three office bearers (see side panel left) assuming charge officially.
It was decided at the outset that Siba Prasad Maitra shall be ‘one of three authorized signatories’ to operate our bank accounts – the other two being Shekhawat and Yusuf Rassiwala.
A couple of other important decisions were taken, one being on re-admission of ex-members. Although we face no such prospect at present, it was felt that in the future should such an eventuality arise, “all re-admissions would be treated as fresh membership”.
In other words, anybody seeking re-admission in the Club will be treated without favour or prejudice and be subjected to all the conditions of admission, including payment of the stipulated registration fee.
The other crucial decision taken at the meeting was the events the Club would underwrite in the course of the next 12 months:
•  Independence Day  on August 15, 2018
•  Diwali on November 7, 2018
•  Annual Day on December 8, 2018
*  New Year's Day on January 1, 2019
•  Republic Day on January 26, 2019
•  Sports Day on February 2, 2019
•  Holi on March 21, 2019
AGM on May 18, 2019
•  Eid ul-Fitr on June 8, 2019
The necessary budgetary allocation for each of these events was also finalised in the meeting.
Earlier in the morning, our new member Anjana Prakash was formally inducted into Big Laaf with a ‘coronation ceremony’ under the watchful eye of her husband, Kiran Prakash. Maitra did the honors by placing the blue Club cap on her head amid a round of applause.

Kiran Prakash:
* It was not 'watchful eye', but the 'admiring eye' of her husband... It is indeed heartening to note that the Managing Committee has just finalised the calendar of events for the current Club's year. Fixing the date of the Annual Function will certainly give a big impetus to all the members to get going.
* While the decision of having the Sports Day at Borivli National Park is admirable, we can have such activities on a smaller scale in the Garden also, eg Musical Chairs, Tug of War, Spoon-Lemon Race, etc. More such games for senior citizens can be thought of.
* If Eid ul-Fitr is on June 8, 2019, the date fixed for AGM (May 18, 2019) will fall during the month of holy Ramazan.

Bihari Milwani:
Humare rashtrapati ka pahela kaam: “Naye member ko topi pahenana”!

Karun Sharma:
Many congratulations and welcome, Anjana-ji. Your coming to Big Laaf would become Big Boost for all of us.

Lt Col Angad Singh (rtd):
Congratulations for the first meeting where a number of important decisions were taken. Incidentally, December 8 is our Corps Raising Day. I hope to join you by then. With good luck to everyone and to the new member, Madam Dr Anjana Prakash. Do keep laughing. It is our daily dose of 'spice in life'.
