Razia Khan pays her contribution for the Monday picnic |
A 90-year-old gent, Moti Gursiani also put in his share for the trip.
According to a back-of-the-envelope estimate, a total of 25 members would eventually join the group, of which 20 have already confirmed their participation. The last day for booking of seats is tomorrow (Saturday).
Shekhawat is however, not too happy with the turn of events. As is his wont, he wanted to lead a much larger group – perhaps in the region of 40 (which would obviously include many non-members). He counted half a dozen names who were eager to join, but could not because of the “inconvenient date”.
“I do not understand why we cannot settle for some other date,” he urged.
Second preview meeting for the Monday picnic |
Shekhawat had to be reminded that whenever dates were changed in the past, the picnic would inevitably go phut. “No date you decide is ever going to suit everybody,” explained Yusuf Rassiwala. “There are bound to be dropouts one way or the other. But should a picnic have to be cancelled, it becomes embarrassing to us all.”
There were some disgruntled voices as well. “What is this Shekhawat-bhai? chided Zarina. "You were to do qurban (sacrifice) of one pension for our picnic!”
Gupta was equally upset. “Where is Rajasthan and where is Malad?” he accosted Shekhawat. “You were supposed to take us to your village at your expense. Now you make us pay to go to some vague resort in Malad. We will never forgive you for shortchanging us like this!”
Karun Sharma:
Let nothing ruin the fun of being together and away from our homes. Best would be not to change the date of picnic. Even if some people drop out, the show must go on.
